Its name is said to have come from a river on the Mediterranean island of Sicily know as the Achates. Agate is a variety of chalcedony formed from layers of quartz which usually show varicolored bands. It usually occurs as rounded nodules or veins. It’s gray color express elegance and respect. Its ruggedness and resistance to chemicals make it particularly suitable for use in technology. Agates are grounding stones, bringing an emotional physical and intellectual balance.
