LAPISLAZULI

Lapis Lazuli is an opaque to translucent blue, blue-violet or greenish-blue semi precious gemstone. The name lapis lazuli comes from two different languages. In Latin, the world lapis means “stone”, and lazuli is Arabic for “blue”. This dark blue gemstone was exported from Mesopotamia to Egypt. There it was considered an out-and-out luxury item. Ultramarine pigment used in painting is made from the finest lapis lazuli to this day and is the most expensive color in the world.
